7/3 - Teen charged with filing false report

From Staff Reports

CUMBERLAND — A 16-year-old boy has been charged with filing a false report to police after he suffered a pellet gun wound to the chest, according to the C3I Unit.

The boy was treated at Memorial Hospital where he was taken by private vehicle following the June 28 incident.

He told police that he was shot by occupants of a vehicle but later admitted that he had fabricated the story. Police said the victim and another youth were “playing around” with the pellet gun when it discharged and struck the victim in the chest. The other youth was not injured and was not charged.

The victim was also charged Wednesday with obstructing and hindering police, following consultation with the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office. He was released to a family member and the case was referred to juvenile authorities.
