Allegany County Teachers Federal Credit Union representatives at convention

TV newsman, congressman keynote speakers for event

CUMBERLAND — Six volunteers and the president/treasurer of the Allegany County Teachers Federal Credit Union recently attended the fourth annual meeting and convention of the Maryland & District of Columbia Credit Union Association in Baltimore.

Volunteers attending were Ed Dawson, David Jones, Shawnee McElfish, Mary Eileen Powers, Richard Stevenson and Bonnie Troxell.

President/treasurer Patricia Folk reported that the six volunteers attended volunteer education sessions such as “Seven Great Habits That Won’t Work Anymore,” “Making the Media Work for You,” “Becoming an Advocate for Financial Literacy,” “Secrets of Mortgage Success,” “The Power & Profitability of Card Relationships,” “Green By Design,” the “Global Women’s Leadership Forum,” “CEO & Management Forum” and “Volunteer Issues Forum.”

Sam Donaldson of ABC News and U.S. Rep. Elijah E. Cummings of the 7th Maryland Congressional District were keynote speakers.

Donaldson spoke on “Defining Leadership” and related some of his experiences with world leaders during his broadcast career.

Cummings gave some legislative insight and told of his experiences in Congress to help credit unions be more effective in the legislature.

Folk said that the attendees learned strategies to assist the credit union to provide up-to-date and better services for its members.
