— CUMBERLAND — Bill and Pat Hunter celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 21.
Bill Hunter married the former Pat Cosgrove at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cumberland on Oct. 21, 1950.
Bill is retired from Walter N. Yoder & Sons and Pat is retired from Cosgrove’s Cycle Company. Both are active members of Friends Aware of Cumberland.
They are the parents of Debbie Merritt and husband, Rick; Diane Hendrickson and husband, Paul; Beverly McWhirter and husband Pat; and Sharon Hunter. They also have four grandchildren, Tanya Meade, Leesburg, Va.; Curt Hauser, Cumberland; Mitchell McWhirter, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and Alison McWhirter, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; one step-grandson, Shane Merritt, Cumberland; and one great-grandchild, Adaline Humphrey.
Like the song entitled “Memories,” 60 years provides many memories that will be carried on and passed down from generation to generation. However, the most important element to this couple is the unity of family. The support and guidance thay have provided to their “girls” throughout the years can be measured by the volumes of love, hard work and the bond they have shared. It is fundamentals such as these that make this family strong and united.
The couple celebrated their diamond anniversary with a cruise to the Bahamas with their daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Rick, Diane and Paul and Beverly and Pat.
