WLLIAMSPORT — Judy and Bill O’Hara of Williamsport celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at Fireside Restaurant in Halfway. A surprise dinner and reception was hosted by Mary “Marvie” O’Hara, Bill’s mother, and coordinated by Pat Wolfe, Bill’s sister.
The O’Haras were married Sept. 1, 1960, in the Oldtown United Methodist Church, Oldtown, by the Rev. Charles Sisk.
Mrs. O’Hara is the daughter of the late Rev. Irvin “Cy” Allen and the late Virginia “Jenny” Allen. She is from Oldtown. She retired in 1998 after 32 years of employment with Super Shoe Store and retired as a manager of the Hagerstown store. She was also a volunteer with the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary. Along with her sister, Jilla Smith, Mrs. O’Hara is in partnership of the family-owned Michael Cresap Museum in Oldtown.
Mr. O’Hara is the son of Mary “Marvie” O’Hara and the late Maj. W.E. O’Hara. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and graduated from Frostburg State University with a bachelor of science degree in education. He was employed with the State of Maryland for 28 years, retiring on June 30, 1991. He served as a Maryland State policeman and obtained the rank of sergeant before being promoted to the Office of the Secretary, Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. He was then appointed assistant executive director, Police and Correctional Training Commission. After that he was appointed executive director of the criminal injuries compensation board, and was subsequently appointed assistant director for administration of the Division of Parole and Probation.
The O’Hara’s have one son, Timothy Allen O’Hara of Williamsport.
