FROSTBURG — Tom and Mary Jane (Evans) Clarke celebrated their upcoming 40th wedding anniversary with their children at the Acropolis in Frostburg on Jan. 31, 2009.
Our parents were married on Feb. 3, 1969, in Lonaconing at the First United Methodist Church. Shortly after their life together began, the two moved to Gaithersburg where Tom began his career with Bechtel Power.
Bechtel Power gave them many opportunities to explore the United States. They lived in Mississippi, Delaware, Texas, Oregon, Michigan and back to Maryland. Forty years of love, laughter and hard work later, our dad is still working for Bechtel Power, Houston, Texas, as a field consultant and our mom is retired from Bechtel Power as an executive assistant after 23 years of dedication.
Tom and Mary Jane are the proud parents of two daughters. Jennifer Hughes and her husband, Rick, reside in Lonaconing with their son, Tommy. Jennifer has her master’s degree in reading from Frostburg State University and currently teaches fourth grade at Westernport Elementary. Janette Clark and her husband, Kevin, reside in Barton with their Yorkshire terrier, Abi. Janette has her master’s in nursing from the University of Maryland Baltimore and is employed by Allegany Cardiology as an acute care nurse practitioner.
During all of our years growing up, we have had the most loving parents that two children could ask for. We have seen many parts of our great country and have countless memories of family time and travel. Our parents continue to encourage and support our personal growth, all the while instilling the value of education and the importance of family in both of us. They enjoy spending quality time with their grandson, whether it is a short ride to school, cooking, hunting or fishing.
After 40 years, our parents love each other more and more as each day passes. Congratulations and happy anniversary to a wonderful couple and our parents!
