WESTERNPORT — The family of Paul A. and Margie (Beegle) Smiley are pleased and proud to announce that Dec. 6, 2008, marked the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Paul and Margie were married Dec. 6, 1958, at Midlothian Assembly of God by the late Pastor James Tate. Paul is the son of the late Henry Enoch and Martha Elizabeth (Clem) Smiley of Westernport. Margie is the daughter of the late Fred 0. and Mildred L. (Mellott) Beegle of Friends Cove, Pa.
The bride’s sister, Sara Hayward, served as matron of honor and the bride’s brother-in-law, John Hayward, served as best man.
Paul retired in 1973 from Westvaco, where he was employed for more than 37 years as a machine operator on the No. 3 Paper Machine. Margie was employed by the J.H. Holzshu Company and retired in 1998 from the position of assistant city clerk for the town of Westernport, with more than 26 years of service.
Throughout the years, the Smileys have always been active in their church and have enjoyed traveling, gardening and many other activities. They are members of McCoole Freedom Church.
Paul and Margie are the parents of six children: Paul W. Smiley of Dundalk; Linda Wolford and Jean Paugh, both of Tazewell, Tenn.; David Smiley of Moyock, N.C.; and Diane Cowan and Danny Smiley, both of Westernport.
They also have a daughter-in-law, Diana Smiley, wife of Paul W. Smiley, and a son-in-law, David Cowan Jr., husband of Diane Cowan. They have 11 grandchildren: Katherine Jayne Day of Dundalk; Eddie Paugh and wife Mary of Centerville, Texas; Jason Paugh of Tazewell; Christin Cowan of Bloomington; Shannon Rodwell of Virginia Beach, Va.; Josiah Harvey of Westernport; Terah Harvey of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Michelle Smiley of Moyock; Danielle Smiley of Moyock; David Cowan III of Westernport; and Matthew Paul Cowan of Westernport. They have seven great-grandchildren: James Day of York, Pa.; Ashley Day of Dundalk; Mercades Paugh of Centerville; Kendra Paugh of Tazewell; Dellany Paugh of Centerville; Emily Cowan of Bloomington; and Sarah Windle of Bloomington.

Their family had a card shower and money tree for the occasion and Ferman and Denna Cruz of Clearville surprised them with a music gram. The couple’s great-niece, Morgan Bowser of Everett, presented them with a 50th anniversary bell. A family cookout was held at the couple’s home. Their were four cakes served in honor of Warren and Dee’s anniversary, Warren and Dee’s birthdays, their son Brian’s birthday and the 34th anniversary of CJ and Lee Kifer of Bedford. CJ is the brother of Dee. Marking the family milestones are, from left, Warren and Dee, Brian, and Lee and CJ Kifer. Also attending were Brad, Carisa and Alexis Bowser of Everett. Carisa is the daughter of CJ and Lee. Dee’s sister, Grace Burl of Fountain Hills, Ariz., also attended.
