Singletons celebrate anniversary

CUMBERLAND — Benjamin Dave and Dorothy Lee Singleton of Cumberland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 22, 2008.

Dave, a native of Flintstone, and the former Dorothy Grimm of Cumberland were introduced by Dave’s mother, Genevieve Singleton, in January, 1958, at the home of Dorothy’s parents, Howard and Elizabeth Grimm. Dave, the eldest of six siblings, and Dorothy, the youngest of seven children, were married in Melbourne, Fla., with four airmen as attendants.

The couple are the parents of four children, Gregory Scott, Ralph Lee, Elizabeth Marie and Sherilene Rena, and welcomed into their family two daughter-in-laws, Peggy Adams of Portsmouth, N.H., and Sherri Huff of Newport News, Va., and a son-in-law, Dwight Madison of Richmond, Va. They are blessed with six grandchildren, four of whom are married, and five great-grandchildren. Grandchildren and their spouses and children include Jason and Stacey Singleton and daughter Amber; Adam and April Blanchette and son Brayden; Andy Singleton; Jesse and Jade Norton and son Gabriel; Chase Singleton and his fiancée Katie Schianz; and Chris and Tanya Cunningham and daughters Catherine and Tate

Their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren reside in Maine, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The family spent the morning at the couple’s Flintstone retreat affectionately referred to as “The Farm,” enjoying the land that has been in the family for nearly 100 years and a cabin rebuilt by Dave. With four generations of family as a witness, Dave and Dorothy renewed their vows in Dorothy’s beautiful garden at their home in Cumberland. They were joined by their brothers and sister and their spouses, Mary and Will House, Jerry Singleton and Shirley Singleton of Cumberland and Ted and Wanda Singleton of Flintstone. The Rev. Merle Correll officiated.

The couple retired from Air Force life in 1981 to reside in Cumberland, watch their family grow, enjoy the outdoors and support our area’s veterans, health, education and civic organizations.
